A Themed Senior Session

Beautiful senior portraits are a given for most high school seniors. But, how about a themed session? Was there a favorite themed dance or event throughout your high school years that you might want to capture as part of your senior session? Check out this 80’s themed shoot! This senior was just enamored with the fashion and trends of the 80’s so she added a themed session to her overall Senior Session package. We had a blast shooting this series in my studio.
She had fun designing and making her outfit with her favorite aunt. And I hunted for all things 80’s I could find in my house. Not sure if I should boast about it or be embarrassed that I actually found a few items. So, what 80’s kid didn’t have a boom box? Well, this one (ME) did and we still have one!!! We paired this up with some headphones and boom! And, it wasn’t just for show…we actually blasted 80’s music throughout the whole shoot! So much fun!
Next, I had to get all of our vinyl records out and choose a few for the shoot. The cool thing about record albums that kids don’t get anymore was the amazing artwork and photography that went in designing the album cover. Now with digital downloads or streaming, I feel that art is lost. She spent some time admiring the covers and finding the heart throbs!
Then we switched to a corded phone because what girl doesn’t love to talk on the phone? Music, phone, ……a hairbrush! And, not for her hair, for that pretend mic! Come on now, how many of you sang your heart out into your hairbrush? Yes, it was a thing….you’d be lying if you deny you did!
So what else do you need for an 80’s shoot? Well, this was a miss for me (won't make that mistake again)…..I only had sugar free gum….none of that BIG bubble making bubble gum. So, that one was a bust…literally! We improvised and got a cute shot with a lollipop instead. And, the other big miss was the hairspray! I “TOTALLY” forgot to go pick up some Aquanet….how could I forget? I mean….look, just look at my own 80’s hair (I promise I don't still look like that!)
No matter, we still got some great shots and both client and photographer had a blast. It was a win!
